West Virginia Controls Own Destiny In Search Of Big 12 Title
By Dan Hughes
Yes West Virginia, you can win the Big 12 title.
Okay, it may not have the same ring to it as the classic Christmas editorial, “Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus.” But it may feel like Christmas for Mountaineer fans if WVU can pull off the unthinkable.
At 6-2 (4-1 in Big 12) they currently find themselves at No. 20 in the AP poll, No. 22 in the Coaches Poll.
The Mountaineers currently sit behind Kansas State, who are undefeated in conference play. They are tied with Baylor and TCU. The good news for West Virginia is that they already beat Baylor and still have yet to play both TCU and Kansas State….and play both at HOME.
Just imagine for a second if West Virginia had been able to hold on and actually upset Alabama. This team would be sitting higher in the polls and they could be fighting for a spot in the Top-10 by the end of the season.
As it stands now, a spot in the Top-4 for the first ever College Football Playoff is probably out of reach – the first voting results come out today. But the Mountaineers do control their destiny in search of a Big 12 title. And that’s gotta be exciting.
