Few people remember that Chuck Howley was drafted by the Chicago Bears. He would last just two seasons in Chicago before washing out.

Howley would remain out of football, working at a gas station in Wheeling, WV before the Dallas Cowboys came calling. Howley tried out for Tom Landry’s Cowboys in 1961.

The rest is history. Chuck Howley would go on to become a perennial Pro-Bowler and NFL champion as part of the vaunted Doomsday Defense. Howley was also named Super Bowl V (aka Blunder Bowl) MVP.

While at first glance, Howley was a draft bust, he later turned into one of the great Cowboys linebackers of all-time.
