Game Result: WVU beats Maryland 31-21 in the “Fashion Bowl”

Reasoning: The 2012 edition of the Border War resembled the 2010 Backyard Brawl, with both teams wearing unique uniform systems for the game.

This game was the debut of the Mountaineers gray uniform system for the West Virginia Mountaineers. At first, I was skeptical of WVU introducing gray to the uniform pallet. After seeing these uniforms in action, I (like thousands of WVU fans) fell in love with the gray jerseys and scrambled to buy my gray replice jersey.

The monocromatic look is one of the more aesthetically pleasing uniforms that the Mountaineers have rolled out in recent years. I’m especially a fan of this particular gray helmet, which is essentially a toned-down version of the 2010 Pro Combat helmet.

I would expect the Mountaineers to utilize this combination a lot in the coming years as coach Dana Holgorsen puts his “stamp” on the program.
