The only time that the Mountaineers have ever played the OSU Cowboys was during the 1958-1959 season. That was back when the Mountaineers were in the middle of one of their most memorable eras, the era of the great Jerry West.
West Virginia, ranked #7 at the time, pummeled the Cowboys in the Kentucky Invitational tournament. Behind “The Logo’s” double-double, the Mountainees built an overwhelming 38-18 lead heading into the locker room at halftime. The Mountaineers cruised from there to an easy 67-49 victory.
Not much familiarity between these conference foes, but that is due to change soon. OSU comes to WVU on January 26 before they face off in Stillwater on February 23.
