Today, it was announced at WVMetroNews that Dana Holgorsen has found the final piece to his restructured coaching staff.

It seems that former Pitt Defensive Coordinator (no, that was not a typo) and former Arkansas State DC Keith Patterson will be joining the staff.

It was officially announced that Patterson resigned from the Arky State staff, and Gus Malzahn even commented about it.

Gus Malzahn on Patterson:

"“We appreciate everything Coach Patterson did for us while he was here and wish him the best,” Red Wolves Coach Gus Malzahn.  “We have already started a search to fill the open position on our coaching staff as we move forward.”"

Malzahn hired Patterson from Pitt on January 4th, 2012. Here’s what he had to say about him at the time:

“He does a great job of mixing up, keeping the odd front. He’ll bring different blitzes. In today’s game, you’ve got to have a little bit of an odd front. He’s the guy that everybody goes to to visit with. High school guys, even college guys. We’re getting a real good one, one of the best in the business. I’m tickled to death to be able to coach with him.”

Earlier in the week, it was reported that WVU hired former Stephen F. Austin State University Defensive Line Coach Erik Slaughter for the same position.

With Slaughter as DL coach, and Patterson brought in (most likely) as a Linebackers coach and co-Defensive Coordinator with Joe DeForest, this will complete Dana Holgorsen’s coaching staff as the Mountaineers get ready to head into a real football conference, the Big 12.
