Spring Football Practice: Day 1
By Editorial Staff
It was a nice day in Morgantown today. Temperatures were in the 80s and it was sunny, perfect weather to kick off spring football practices!
As of right now, sophomore Geno Smith is the expected starting quarterback, but his practicing was limited, as indicated by his green jersey. Also in a green jersey was Bradley Starks, a wide receiver converted from quarterback.
Speaking of wide receivers, Deon Long and Logan Heastie were not at spring drills, and all indications say that they will not be on the team come time September. Heastie has been the subject of rumors of his departure for a long while. According to WVMetroNews, Coach Bill Stewart said if players didn’t make it to practice today, they will not be on the team. Due to the lack of depth at wide receiver, the team had to put defensive back (and former running back) Eddie Davis to take some snaps at WR.
Players wearing red jerseys today, only taking part in conditioning drills due to returning from off-season injuries were Scooter Berry, Ryan Nehlen and Tyler Bitancurt.
When the Day 2 report is posted tomorrow, there will be 23 days left until the Spring Game.
