Bill Bedenbaugh Leaves West Virginia for Oklahoma

Earlier today, wvumetronews.com broke the story that Mountaineers offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh has accepted an offer to become the offensive line coach at Oklahoma.

The loss of Bedenbaugh will surely have an impact on the success of West Virginia recruiting going forward. He was instrumental in putting together one of the top recruiting classes in the country and a big factor in the signing of center Tyler Tezeno.

Bedenbaugh’s departure marks the fourth West Virginia assistant to leave the football team since the season ended. Of those, two were fired (corners coach Daron Roberts and special teams coach Steve Dunlap), while quarterbacks coach Jake Spavital left for Texas A&M.

The high turnover in assistants is not a big shocker for high profile programs, but it is something that coach Holgorsen will need to keep his eye on. Some of the early verbal commitments to WVU left the 2013 class due to coaching turnover and it would not be at all surprising if a couple of the players who signed with the Mountaineers were to strongly consider transferring.

Given the tweet quoted by wvumetronews from Tyler Tezeno, it seems as though transfer could be a real possibility for some of the 2013 class:

“I swear this better not be true about coach B leaving…” and

We know that one of those men was inside receivers coach Shannon Dawson. Now meet the Mountaineers new offensive line coach, Bill Bedenbaugh.

Recruiting: A future Mountaineer O-Lineman?

Showing evidence at this site’s growth, I received some video highlights today pertaining to two-way lineman Tyler Alt from Greensburg, PA.

Alt is currently a Junior at Greensburg Central Catholic High School. Alt stands at 6’3″, 255 lbs. Kid’s a hoss!

I briefly spoke with Tyler’s dad today and he said that Tyler’s very interested in WVU, letting me know that WVU has been to his school a couple of times and they receive mail all the time from WVU. Tyler’s dad also told me his son is very anxious to meet new Offensive Line Coach Bill Bedenbaugh when he visits in the Spring.
