The WVU baseball team finished the 2017 season 34-23 and earned their first NCAA Tournament bid since 1996.

After earning the No. 2 seed in the Winston-Salem Region, head coach Randy Mazey and the ‘Eers will face off against the No. 3 seed Maryland Terrapins on Friday, June 2, at 2 p.m.

The Terrapins finished the season 37-21 (15-9 in Big 10 play), but were an envious 20-3 at home; they also went 8-4 on neutral fields. While Maryland was 9-14 on the road, the Mountaineers were an impressive 15-14 away from Morgantown (5-2 on a neutral field).

Jackson Cramer is West Virginia’s home-run leader with ten, and is also second on the ‘Eers with 43 RBIs.

The winner of Friday’s game will be primed for a possible match-up with host and No. 1 seed of the region Wake Forest or No. 4 seed UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) on Saturday.

Not to look too far ahead, but the “big dawg” in the Mountaineers’ bracket is Florida, the third of eight National Top Eight seeds; the No. 3 overall seed in the tournament. For a better understanding of the tournament as a whole, check here.
