The WVU baseball team is getting ready for their final home game of the regular season against the rival Pitt Panthers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p/m. tonight.

It’s not as hyped as 13-9, but a Pitt versus WVU matchup is always an exciting one.

The visiting Panthers (22-27, 8-19 ACC) haven’t won in almost a week, after getting swept by N.C. State over the weekend. Freshman Chris Gomez will get the start for the Panthers, his second of the season; he’s thrown 31.0 innings and given up 17 earned runs.

The Mountaineers (30-20, 11-10 Big 12) enter the contest on a three-game winning streak after beating Penn State at PNC Park May 10 and handing Gardner-Webb two consecutive losses over the weekend. With their final series of the season this weekend versus Big 12 opponent Texas, the Panthers should fare as a nice tune-up.

Kyle  Davis has led the way for WVU offensively. His 188 at-bats and 33 runs scored rank third on the team, while his slugging percentage (.537), total bases (101), RBIs (39) and doubles (12) all lead the Mountaineers; he’s also the only player to start all 50 games this season.

Freshman Isaiah Kearns will be making his second start against Pitt this season from the mound. He’s got the third-highest ERA on the team (6.67), but is 4-0 in his five starts.
