ABC and ESPN have announced that the opening game of the WVU Football season on Saturday, August 30th will be a 3:30 start on ABC or ESPN2. WVU travels to the Georgia Dome to take on national powerhouse Alabama in the annual Chic-Fil-A kickoff game.
A tough test for the Mountaineers awaits them in Alabama. West Virginia on the other hand, looks to start off on the right foot in the 2014 season after failing to make a bowl game since 2003. Alabama has had game experience at the Georgia Dome, where the SEC Championship is normally held. The Tide sports a 4-4 record in those championship games dating back to 1992. The Mountaineers history of play at the Georgia Dome dates back to 2005 where they last played Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, defeating the Bulldogs 38-35.
The Mountaineers will make the 612 mile trip down to Atlanta, which is the 2nd closest away game the Mountaineers will endure in the 2014 season aside from their game against Maryland 2 weeks after. Alabama will only travel 202 miles for what looks to be a “home game” at a neutral site.
