WVU Football kicks off their 2014-15 campaign on Saturday in the annual Blue Vs Gold Spring Game. The game is scheduled to kick off on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at 1 pm at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown. Gates open at noon and admission is $10 for general admission. Students get in for free with valid ID.
The Blue and Gold Game has been known to show the high powered offense in full effect but this years game will have eyes on a different side of the ball. Tom Bradley, new WVU Senior Associate Head Coach and Defensive Line coach, takes over a defense with promising returners to his side of the ball. Karl Joseph and Nick Kwiakowski are two returnees who look to thrive in Bradley’s schemes. Bradley brings a great defensive mind to the Mountaineers. His coaching career began in 1979-1980 at Penn State and continued there until 2011, where he took over for the legendary Joe Paterno as interim head coach, in the final 4 games of the 2011 season, after the resignation of Paterno. After being released by Bill O’Brien, Bradley looks to WVU for a fresh start in the 2014 year.
On the offensive side of the ball, Dana Holgersen‘s offense, has many questions to answer yet again. With a young receiving core and great depth at the running back position, look to see many different personnel packages. Mario Alford looks to step up as a go to reciever and a veteran in the Holgorsen offense. Andrew Buie returns in the backfield for WVU, along with Dustin Garrison, transfer and 5 star recruit, Rushell Shell. Dreamius Smith and Wendell Smallwood are also returning. With WVU juggling 5 running backs and no decision on a starting quarterback, look for some fireworks out of the backfield on Saturday. Clint Trickett, Paul Millard, and JUCO transfer Skylar Howard all look to compete for the starting job in Morgantown.
As a WVU Football fan it is no surprise to go into the spring with questions, and don’t think the spring game will answer any of them. Mountaineer fans should head into Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday with an open mind and wide eyes. Many new faces will be on display both in between the lines and on the sidelines.
Let’s Go Mountaineers.
