Oliver Luck leaving WVU for Texas?

While head coach Dana Holgorsen has been under pressure to bring the West Virginia Mountaineers to a winning season, today there was news that Athletic Director Oliver Luck may be leaving his post at West Virginia for the AD job at Texas. He has quickly become the front-runner for the job. Current AD, DeLoss Dodds has announced his plans to step down on August 31st, 2014. Luck is rumored to meet with a seven member advisory board this week sometime as early as this week. If the committee agrees on Luck, he could be hired at Texas before the end of this month. If the committee does hire Oliver Luck, a contract could be offered to him around November 13th or 14th.

Given Luck’s history with Texas, it makes sense that the Longhorns president Bill Powers would seek out Luck before anyone else for the job. If Oliver Luck does not take the Texas job, the second name on the list is Arizona State AD Steve Patterson. Oliver Luck is yet to make any public comment about this possible move in his career. Luck is also a member of the Big 12 2014 playoff committee. A possible official announcement could come from Oliver Luck during West Virginia’s bye week after November 16th versus Kansas.
