The Mountaineers were in action this past weekend in the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, NJ. WVU placed two 8+ crews in action.
The first varsity crew achieved a time of 6:49.14 in their event, placing 5th in the Grand Final. The Mountaineers outpaced 29 other crews in the event.
The second varsity crew also performed well at the event, registering a time of 7:12.88, proof enough for a 10th place finish in their flight out of 31 teams.
A strong pair of showings for the Mountaineers, who will have the next 11 days off prior to competing against Bucknell, Connecticut, and Delaware at Pinchot Lake, PA.
WVU ventured out to Ames, IA this past weekend in a match-up of two teams in search of their first Big XII victories of the season. The Mountaineers were seeking to break a 6-match losing streak.
Yet, once a again, WVU struggled against a Big XII opponent, falling to ISUZU 5-2.
The Mountaineers registered two victories in singles competition behind the play of Hailey Barrett and Emily Mathis. WVU failed to put together the additional two victories needed to end the losing streak and register their first Big XII victory.
The Mountaineers get two last chances to register a conference win this weekend with a road trip to face Kansas and Kansas State on April 19 and 21 respectively.
In the Patriot Open Invitational, three Mountaineers recorded first place finishes. Katlyn Shelar recorded her second consecutive first place finish in the pole vault with a vault of 3.82 m.
Heather Adams once again dominated the hammer throw with a 53.44 m throw, earning her a third consecutive first place finish.
WVU long jumper Stormy Nesbit completed a jump of 5.86 m.
The next event for the Mountaineers will be the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, NJ this coming weekend.
