Four of the Mountaineers talented offensive players from this past season are on their way to Indianapolis, IN this Spring for the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine.
West Virginia’s representatives in Indianapolis will be:
- Geno Smith: 11,662 passing yards, 341 rushing yards, and 102 total touchdowns
- Tavon Austin: 3,413 receiving yards, 1,033 rushing yards, 2,840 combined return yards, and 40 total touchdowns
- Stedman Bailey: 3,218 receiving yards, 13 rushing yards, 213 return yards, and 41 total touchdowns
- Joe Madsen: 4-year starter at center, starting in 50 games.
Both Geno Smith and Tavon Austin are projected to be first round draft choices in April’s draft. Stedman Bailey and Joe Madsen are clearly draftable players that are not currently slotted for the first few rounds.
Strong performances by Bailey and Madsen in their combine workouts can really improve their draft stock heading into the April draft.
NFL teams are always in search of a consistent prescence along the interior offensive line. Madsen is one of the more talented centers entering the 2013 NFL Draft and will have an opportunity to climb up the draft boards into the top half of the draft.
For Stedman Bailey, it is safe to assume that his 25 receiving touchdowns caught the eye of a GM or two. Amazingly, Bailey is not listed in the top 5 wide receiver prospects on multiple draft boards. If Bailey can go out on that turf in Indianapolis and show off his dazzling hands, he should elevate himself to a second or third round pick at a minimum.
Mountaineers fans will get their chance to watch these four alumni in the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine February 20-26 on NFL Network.
