Gymnastics:

The gymnastics team has been hard at training over the winter break and will open their season this coming week. The Mountaineers will head to Pittsburgh to faceoff with the Panthers on Friday January 11. The competition will start at 7 PM.

Soccer:

WVU star Bry McCarthy has been selected to play for the Canadian National team this coming week in a four-nation tournament in China. Good luck to McCarthy and Canada.

Swimming:

West Virginia swimming got back to work over the winter break, competing in the Orange Bowl Classic meet in Key Largo, FL. The Mountaineers took 3rd place in the competition with 9 top-8 finishes in the various events.

In the backstroke events, junior Danielle Smith finished 3rd in the 50-m and 5th in the 100-m while Nikki Vetterlein finished 6th in each event.

In the fly events, WVU placed sophomore Julie Ogden 5th and junior Eva Burlingham 8th in the 50-m race. In the 100-m event, WVU took 6th, 7th, and 8th by Julie Ogden, Mandie Nugent, and Natalie Johnson.

West Virginia did well in the breast stroke events as well. Jenelle Zee took 3rd place in the 50-m and 3rd in the 100-m events. Jaimee Gilmore finished 7th in the 50-m event and Morgan Emter took 8th place to round out the Mountaineer places in breast events.

In the 200-m medley relay, the Mountaineers took 3rd (Smith, Zee, Ogden, and Burnett) and 4th (Vetterlein, Burlingham, Gillmore, and Burnett).

In all, a solid outing by the Mountaineers. WVU will get back in the water on January 12 in a meet at Pitt.

Track:

WVU track starts their spring schedule with a meet at Kent State on Saturday January 12.
