What the HailWV Staff is Thankful For

On a day like this, Thanksgiving, it is important to remember what we are all thankful for. When you are a Mountaineer, there is always plenty to be thankful for. Here is a sampling of some of the things that the a couple of writers from the HailWV staff are thankful for:

Ken Durbin:

This past year has brought so much to be thankful for, especially in Mountaineer athletics. West Virginia moved their programs out of the collapsing Big East and into a more stable Big XII. The football team won the Orange Bowl in January and looks like they will have the opportunity to play in a bowl game this December. The women’s basketball team in undefeated with a #12 ranking. The rifle team concluded their fall slate with a #2 ranking. The women’s soccer team completed an undefeated regular season Big XII championship

Above all else, I am thankful for the brave men and women of the United States armed forces. Without their personal sacrifices in pursuit of preserving our freedom, we would not be able to enjoy the freedom of speech to have a blog site like

Brandon Miller:

I’m thankful for my great family and friends, of course. I’m also thankful that I’m a Mountaineer, because no matter how good or bad our teams are doing, I am part of a special group of people and and part of the great state of West Virginia, and I have a great education that will continue to bring me success for the rest of my life.

Alan Searles:

I’m thankful for Marist after a tough loss, family, food, wine and a holiday without cell service.

Patrick Pishko:

I am thankful for great family/friends, delicious microbrew beers, Huggy Bear, Holgs, and Oliver Luck.
