To date, the National Collegiate Football Awards Association has announced semifinalists for six awards: Bednarik, Butkus, William V. Campbell, Maxwell, Davey O’Brien, and Jim Thorpe awards. Of the six semifinal lists released, the West Virginia Mountaineers have placed a player on three of the award lists.

Today, Geno Smith was also named as a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award. The award is given annually to the player judged by media and coaches to be the best player in college football. Smith was named one of the 16 semifinalists for this award. Again, Geno will have to wait until November 19 to see if he is a finalist for this award.
