Today, HailWV shifts gears a little bit and gives some much deserved recognition to the West Virginia University Women’s Soccer team.
In their inaugural Big XII season, the Mountaineers were determined to make their presence felt in their new conference home. WVU struggled early in the season with non-conference play. The Mountaineers ran up a 4-3-3 record in non-conference play before starting their Big XII slate.
Behind the play of stellar players Kate Schwindel and Frances Silva, the Mountaineers dominated the Big XII. West Virginia finished their conference play with a nearly flawless 7-0-1 record.
Now the ladies in gold and blue will head to San Antonio, TX to claim their first Big XII soccer title. The top seeded Mountaineers will take on the TCU Horned Frogs in the first round on Halloween night. The Mountaineers will then face the winner of the Red River Rivalry (Texas vs Oklahoma) on Friday November 2.
Should the Mountaineers handle their business, they will play for the Big XII Championship on Sunday November 4.
If you have not been paying close attention to the ladies success, their is no better time than the present to get on board with the ladies as they seek WVU’s first Big XII Championship in any sport.
