Down Goes Arkansas, Up Goes WVU

Week 2 of the college football season was packed with eyebrow raising upsets across the country. Nebraska and Wisconsin had embarassing showings. Oklahoma State went from blowing out the sisters of the poor to being reduced to orphan Annie.

But no upset was as shocking as Arkansas’ loss to Louisana Monroe. ULM had NEVER beaten a ranked team and has had a losing record since 1980. The last time the Warhawks were winners, people in America made Kenny Rogers’ Lady a #1 hit (which is almost as disgraceful as the Warhawks 32 years of ineptitude).

With Arkansas biting the dust, the Mountaineers made minimal advances in the AP and Coaches’ polls; moving to 9th and 8th respectively.

The Mountaineers also advanced minimally in the Fansided Top 25 Poll (powered by saturdayblitz.com). The Mountaineers advanced from 10 to 9 this week with the Arkansas upset. Personally, I feel that this is a little low given the firepower the Mountaineers showed off in Week 1. For clarity, this is how I voted in the Fansided Top 25:

1. Alabama (Fansided Poll #1)

2. LSU (3)

3. USC (2)

4. Oregon (4)

5. Oklahoma (5)

6. Georgia (6)

7. Florida State (7)

8. West Virginia (9)

9. South Carolina (8)

10. Michigan State (10)

As you can see from my Top 10, I was somewhat conservative with my own ranking of WVU, trying to not be too biased. I think that if the Mountaineers put on another aerial assault, the likes of Tora! Tora! Tora! against the Dukes of JMU, we will see the Mountaineers climb as high as #5 in the polls next week.
