The West Virginia Mountaineers are now a consensus top 10 team nationally in the latest national polls.
WVU began the season ranked 11th in the AP Poll. This week’s voting shows the Mountaineers having climbed two spots to be tied for 9th with South Carolina. They are the second highest rated Big XII team, behind only 5th ranked Oklahoma who struggled with UTEP on the road in week 1. Other Big XII teams ranked in the AP Poll include: 17 Texas, 18 Oklahoma State, 20 TCU, and 21 Kansas State.
Similarly, West Virginia began the season ranked 11th in the Coaches’ Poll. This week, the coaches decided to move the Mountaineers up to the 8th ranking in their week 2 poll. Again, Oklahoma is the only Big XII team ranked higher than WVU, at number 5 in the poll. Other Big XII teams ranked in the coaches’ poll include: 15 Texas, 16 Oklahoma State, 17 TCU, and 20 Kansas State.
Week 2 is also the debut of the Fansided Top 25 Poll. The Mountaineers debuted in the Fansided Poll at 10. Other Big XII teams to debut in the Fansided Poll: 6 Oklahoma, 15 Texas, 17 Oklahoma State, 20 Kansas State, and 22 TCU.
