Helpful hint to those dedicated readers who will be attending the Friends of Coal Bowl on Saturday: there is a new traffic pattern.
As
WSAZ is reporting, the traffic pattern for leaving the stadium will be slightly altered from last season. More of the traffic (three lanes) will be routed north on 705 towards the Mileground with only one lane heading south on 705 towards Van Voorhis.
Anybody who has had to sit in the post game traffic can tell you that any idea to reduce congestion is a welcome change. The location of Milan Puskar Stadium certainly makes getting out of town a challenge. Great city planning on Morgantown’s part is the issue.
Who thought it was a good idea to make the Mileground one lane each direction? You certainly can’t utilize Stewartstown Road to get out of town. The only exit on game days that makes any sense is through Star City.
If you find yourself stuck on 705, you can take the not so secret back way to Interstate 79 in Granville:
-
Stay straight onto Burroughs Street
-
Turn left onto Collins Ferry Road and then take an immediate right onto Pochahontas Avenue
-
Turn right onto University Avenue
-
Follow University Avenue (including the 90 degree left bend as you come down the hill in Star City) until you reach US 119
-
Then turn right onto US 119 and you have cut off a decent chunk of traffic
Anyways, hope the traffic directions will be a help those heading to Morgantown this weeked and beyond!
