WVU vs. DePaul, Saying Goodbye to Jones and Bryant

The West Virginia Mountaineers face the DePaul Blue Demons tonight in the final home game of the season. The Mountaineers are 17-12 overall and 7-9 in Big East play.

The Mountaineers suffered a tough loss on Friday after Marquette was able to overcome a 15 point deficit to win the game. These last two games of the regular season will likely determine if West Virginia gets into the NCAA tournament or possibly heads to the NIT.

It is senior night at the Coliseum and Kevin Jones and Daryl “Truck” Bryant will be honored in a ceremony before the game. Kevin Jones will go down in history as one of the greats at West Virginia. He is one of only four Mountaineers to score over 1,000 points and have over 1,000 rebounds. Being in the same company with the likes of Jerry West and Warren Baker says something about his career. Many, including myself, think that Kevin Jones should be Big East player of the year. It is hard to imagine that the guy who leads the Big East in rebounds and points wouldn’t, but this has been that kind of season.

DePaul is last in the Big East standings. The Blue Demons are 11-17 overall and 2-14 in the Big East. They have won only two games in 2012. Cleveland Melvin will be the one to watch for. The sophomore averages 17.4 PPG and 7.3 RPG. The team is 45th in the nation in PPG averaging 73.9 and 146th in the nation in field goal percentage at 44%.

This will be an emotional night for the two seniors and Coach Huggins. Hopefully, the team can get the work done and head to South Florida with a little momentum. The game tips at 7:00 and can be seen on Root Sports and ESPN3.
