WVU 60, Marquette 61

The West Virginia Mountaineers fall to the 10th ranked Marquette Golden Eagles 61-60. The Mountaineers are now 17-12 overall and 7-9 in the Big East.

The Mountaineers took advantage of the absence of Marquette’s Johnson-Odom, Junior Cadougan and Vander Blue in the first half of play. The Mountaineers led by as much as 15 in the first minutes of the second half. Unfortunately, the Mountaineers would see that lead diminish with 5:35 left in the game. The Mountaineers would have one last shot, but Truck Bryant’s shot wouldn’t go and time expired.

Truck Bryant led the team with 25 points. Kevin Jones had 12 points and 6 rebounds. The team shot 39% from the floor, 25% from the 3-point range, and 56.3% from the free throw line.

Jae Crowder led the Golden Eagles with 26 points and 4 rebounds. Marquette shot 50% from the floor, 50% from the free throw line, and 18.8% from 3-point range.

I really don’t know where the team goes from here. Truck Bryant is going to take a lot of heat for that last minute missed shot, but he had a heck of a game. I feel for the guy because the team, as a whole, had difficulties on defense in the second half. Without the defensive lapses, Truck, and the team, wouldn’t have been in that position with 6 seconds remaining.

The Mountaineers face DePaul on Tuesday in the last home game of the season.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Last night, Marquette Head Coach Buzz Williams thought he was cool by 2-stepping to “Country Roads” after the game on his way to the broadcast booth for a post-game interview, when in reality, he was being classless and obnoxious. Any respect I once had for Williams has gone down the tubes. No, we will not be posting the video. Again, very sad. -Jim
