The West Virginia Mountaineers lost to the Pittsburgh Panthers 72-66. The Mountaineers have lost three straight. That is the longest losing streak for the Mountaineers under Coach Huggins.
The Mountaineers started strong holding an 8 point lead with 7:16 remaining in the first half. The Panthers went on a run to go into the half up by 4. The Mountaineers were forced to play catch up the entire second half and just couldn’t close. Pittsburgh never relinquished the lead.
Tray Woodall led the Panthers with 24 points. The team shot 42.6% in field goal attempts, 30% from three point range, and 80.8% from the line.
Kevin Jones had another double-double for the Mountaineers with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Truck Bryant had 14 points, 7 assists, and 9 rebounds. Deniz Kilicli and Jabarie Hinds combined for 24 points. The Mountaineers shot 40.4% from the floor, 21.1% from three point range, and 83.3% from the free throw line.
The Mountaineers get a much needed break before heading to the Dunkin Donuts Center to face Providence on Sunday.
