The West Virginia Mountaineers (13-5, 4-2) defeated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (10-8, 2-3) 84-60 in the Coliseum this afternoon. This is the second time these two teams have met this season. The first was merely ten days ago and if you saw that one, I’m sure you had a few moments of déjà vu today.
The Scarlet Knights led the Mountaineers 4-3 with 18.36 left in the first half and it would be the only lead they had all day. Kevin Jones led the team with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Bryant had 18 points and Kilicli followed with 14. The Mountaineers led from the floor making 27-58, from 3 point range at 7-17, and even from the free throw line making 23-41.
Dane Miller led the Knights with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Rutgers turned the ball over 19 times during the game and West Virginia was able to capitalize on those mistakes. Rutgers was only 23-58 from the floor, 3-14 from three point range, and 11-20 from the line.
The Mountaineers have a few days off to prepare for the Thundering Herd in the annual Capital Classic on January 18th.
