The West Virginia Mountaineer basketball team moves to 2-1 in Big East play after defeating the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Wednesday night.
The game was tied at 13 early in the first half of play but the Mountaineers were able to extend the lead to 51-24 at the half. Rutgers was able to get within 10 to start the second half of play, but wouldn’t get any closer.
After scoring 11 points against Seton Hall, Truck Bryant bounced back again and led the Mountaineers with 29 points and 3 rebounds. Kevin Jones had his 10th double-double on the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds. The scoring didn’t stop with those two. Kilicli had 19. Aaron Brown and Jabarie Hinds each had 11. The Mountaineers shot 56.8% from the floor, 75.5% from the free throw line, and 53.8% from 3-point range.
The Scarlet Knights were led by Eli Carter who scored 19. Jerome Seagears had 10. The team was only 24-52 from the floor and shot 25% from 3-point range.
The Mountaineers (11-4) return home on Saturday to face the 9th ranked Georgetown Hoyas (13-1) in the Coliseum.
