The West Virginia Mountaineers (10-4) take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (8-6) in the Louis Brown Athletic Center tonight. The Mountaineers are returning to action after a tough loss at the hands of Seton Hall.
The Scarlet Knights rank 153rd overall in PPG with 69.6 and 136th in the nation for field goal percentage at 44.8%. They are led by freshman guard, Eli Carter, who averages 13.5 PPG and 3.1 RPG. Myles Mack and Gilvydas Biruta follow with 11 and 10.9 PPG, respectively.
Kevin Jones and Truck Bryant are continuing to lead the Mountaineers. Jones is the most consistent and is averaging 20 PPG and 11.4 RPG. Deniz Kilicli is still ailing and is getting only limited playing time. The Mountaineers are continuing to struggle from the free throw line averaging only 62.2%.
Traveling in the Big East is never easy. This Scarlet Knight team most recently lost to the USF Bulls, away, after beating the 10th ranked Florida Gators, at home, in double overtime. This will be another test for the young Mountaineers and is very important when considering the possibility of tournament play.
The game tips at 7:00 p.m. and can be seen on ROOT sports and ESPN3.
