The West Virginia Mountaineers (9-3) open up Big East play tonight, in the Coliseum, against the Villanova Wildcats (7-5).
Villanova is averaging 72.8 points per game and is 21st in the nation in rebounding, averaging 40 per game. Their field goal percentage is less than impressive at 42.1%. Maalik Wayns, the Wildcats junior guard, is leading the team with 17.4 PPG. Mouphtaou Yarou is averaging 12.9 PPG and leading the team in rebounds at 8.5 per game.
Kevin Jones was named Big East player of the week. He continues to impress averaging 21 PPG and 11.9 RPG. I don’t expect anything different from him tonight. He has 8 double-doubles on the season thus far.
Kilicli has been limited in practice because of the hip pointer. It is unclear if he will play tonight. Forsythe is still out due to back spasms.
Conference play is never easy and anything can, and usually does, happen. The Mountaineers should be able to hand this Villanova team another loss and start Big East play 1-0. The game can be seen on ESPN3 and tips at 7:00.
