Game Preview: Rutgers

Get ready, Mountaineer fans, for the visit to New Jersey. Has anything good come out of New Jersey since Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, and Da’Sean Butler? This week, Slutgers is on the schedule.

We’re starting a new feature for our previews moving forward, thanks to the awesome folks at

Anyway, on with the previews…

Jeremy aka @Slangbus

I can honestly say I haven’t seen Rutgers play since we played them last season, mostly because their offense makes me want to hang myself. I’m guessing that they’ll try to line-up in big formations and run at us, and if Casteel just sits back, they might succeed. However, in the end I think the Mountaineer offense carries the D to victory, 48-35.

This week’s prediction: WVU 38, Rutgers 24.

WVU is coming off a loss to Syracuse that left us all shaking our heads. We know what happened there so no need to go back. We travel this weekend to Rutgers (5-2) in what will be a rowdy crowd, and RU will have Eric LeGrand leading the team out. No doubt the RU crowd will be emotional and electric, and can WVU combat that? Will RU bring the same gameplan as SU did? Will Geno handle the pressure if they do? More questions that answers.

Then comes the weather. Looks like a nice snow storm is rolling up the east coast, and it will bring rain and snow to the area with highs in the 40s, but it will feel like the 20s. Add this to the questions above, and it could be a ugly game on both side. RU is one of the best teams in nation at creating turnovers, but they’ve only beat WVU 4 times.

We find out a lot about the coaches and players this week.

Frankly, I don’t have much to say about Slutgers this week… now that WVU has been accepted to the Big 12, Slutgers won’t matter much anymore, if at all.

Anyway, Eric LeGrand is going to be leading Rutgers on the field for Saturday’s game, which is definitely an emotional thing. Glad to see him doing that… he deserves it. I honestly wish for nothing but the best for LeGrand.

But, I still detest Greg SchianHO with every fiber of my being, and hope to see WVU chop Slutgers up into pieces.
