Coal Bowl moved to a Sunday

Well, I hope nobody’s made hotel reservations yet for that game weekend… because it has been moved.

According to the Charleston Daily Mail, the Coal Bowl Marshall Charity Bowl has been moved to Sunday, 4 Sept @ 3:30pm on ESPN.

From the article…

"CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The sixth Friends of Coal Bowl is headed for national telecast exposure. The 2011 Marshall-West Virginia season-opening football date at Mountaineer Field will be played Sept. 4, one day later than it appears on the two schools’ schedules. Multiple sources report as a done deal what was speculated as likely to happen in this space back on April 6.Sept. 4 is the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. The Coal Bowl will have a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPN, and an announcement from the network is expected as early as today. It’s the third time in six years the game has drawn a national cable slot, the two previous times at Edwards Stadium. The game had been listed on the Big East master schedule as having the potential to move from a Saturday kickoff.Although WVU is the home team, Marshall had to sign off on any date move from the game contract. I’m told the Herd gave the OK because who passes up national TV these days – although MU’s Sept. 10 game in a “short week” is a Conference USA opener at home against Southern Mississippi, while the Mountaineers host FCS foe Norfolk State."

OK, so I’m not totally on board with this, but hey, it’s a nationally televised game… probably the only one on during this timeslot, and it gives a chance for Marshall to be “nationally exposed” as the joke team they are. Personally, I see this as another off-the-wall thing to help Marshall… this game will not benefit WVU in any way… other than for people to see that Holgorsen’s offense is the Real Deal.

Wonder if the cheater Doc Holliday will try to steal signals again this year? Oh wait, he can’t because he doesn’t know Dana Holgorsen’s offense.

I just hope Oliver Luck ends this turkey shoot with Moo-U after 2012.
